And better yet, I get them just because. It's always the biggest surprise, and they're always different and more beautiful than the last ones.

I get the prettiest flowers from my husband!

Butterscotch Scones
While I was home for Christmas, Meghan and I stopped at La Grande Orange to pick up some breakfast foods and coffee to bring over to Tricia and baby Ella. I had the most amazing butterscotch scone that morning, and I have been craving another one ever since! Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, being back in San Francisco I have not been able to satisfy that craving by stopping by LGO for another indulgence. So what did I do? I attempted to make them myself!
They turned out pretty darn good, although they were a little light and fluffy compared to the usually more dense texture I am used to for scones. Paul said he enjoyed them, and everybody at work complained that I didn't bring a whole batch when I packed one in my lunch for dessert one day. They weren't Tammi Coe's, but they did the trick of satisfying the craving, at least until my next trip home to Arizona.

Enjoying the sun at Crissy Field and Sailing
We enjoyed the sun this weekend by going out on the water in the morning with Jake and Megan on Jake's sailboat. After getting some sun, drinking some champagne, we headed over to Crissy Field and enjoyed a barbq with friends and some more sun! What a great day!

Reading for Pleasure

I just finished the book Friday Night Knitting Club, by Kate Jacobs, and it was a great read! I'm probably mostly in love with the fact that I actually sat down and took the time to read for pleasure, something I have not done for a long time. I always seem to find something that I need to do more. It was helpful that I started it over Christmas break, and now that I have one book under my belt, I hope to enjoy getting through some more. Another motivation to actually complete a book is that I joined a book club! I think it's a pretty "social" club, with less emphasis on hearty discussion of the book read, but if it gets me to take time to read, and introduces me to some new friends, then I'm all about it!

To 2009!
I can't believe it's 2009. I think this is going to be a good year. A year of lots of great memories, but no major events like changes of jobs, moving, weddings, etc. At least none planned!
2007 was busy with completing my dissertation, graduating, planning a wedding, completing my internship, getting married, and moving into our 1st house together.
2008 was filled with my first year of work post-internship, Paul getting a job offer outside of AZ, the two of us deciding to move to San Francisco, apartment hunting, packing up our house, moving to CA, finding a new job for me, and living away from my family and friends in Arizona for the first time in my life.
I have no regrets from either of these years, and I know that 2009 will hold as much excitement in it as well. However, I am happy that it is not planned to include any of the excitement of the last two years!
What do I hope 2009 will include?

What do I hope 2009 will include?
- A trip to Japan

- Weekend trips to fun California destinations
- Continued trips home to Arizona to visit family and friends
- Making use of my gym membership regularly
- Continuing to have fun baking
- Developing more friendships in SF
- Reading some good books
- Being better about calling people to stay in touch
- Checking out more neighborhoods in the city
- Taking pictures
- More friends' weddings and babies being born
- More visits from friends
- Trips to LA to visit all of our family and friends that live there
- And being better about documenting the year
